What is the Rehab Chat?

The Rehab Chat is a 2-hour, interactive virtual event held over Zoom with the aim of discussing difficulties specific to this year and commonly encountered in sea turtle rehabilitation. This event will also be used to select which topics should be discussed at the 2022 ISTS Rehabilitation Workshop. The Rehab Chat will occur on Wednesday, September 15th, 18.00–20.00 BST (UTC +1). There is a 50 person attendee limit. A recording of the meeting will be made publicly available on the Sea Turtle Talks website the week after the event for those who are unable to attend the event.

The event consists of two parts. First, there will be short presentations from people in the rehabilitation world, from rescue centre directors to expert veterinarians. This will then be followed by interactive activities to bring about a flowing conversation between the participants and the presenters. Attendees will use a variety of virtual participation tools through Zoom, including word clouds, virtual sticky notes, polls, and more. There will be many opportunities for questions and we encourage attendees to ask away! This event will help us select topics for the next ISTS Rehabilitation Workshop which will take place at the 40th International Sea Turtle Symposium in March 2022, where specific medical techniques with a more detailed and expert view will be provided.

This event and discussion are being led by representatives of Lampedusa Turtle Rescue, including Daniela Freggi, Denise Soares, and Josie Lawrence.
